My Website Design Business Background….

I’m a hands-on creative, techy entrepreneur. After university, I started my web career with my online customer experience job at a bank’s internet team, studied for a certificate in digital marketing and then spent my last 11 years running my website design business, EMWONLINE Design. ‘Ellie Makes Websites’ is my Squarespace website-specific product offering and part of my original design business EMWONLINE Design.

I have been working in the website industry for a very long time (nearly 17 years in fact). I’m a technical female entrepreneur who knows how much time, effort and emotion is put into starting up and running your own business, as I have done it myself. So I pride myself on offering a friendly, supportive service to the large and small businesses I help.

I am not just a Squarespace Website Designer, I have website development coding experience in a wide range of platforms and digital systems and over 18 years of experience working within the website and digital marketing industry. 

Alongside this, I also provide graphic design and branding services too. I love being creative with colour (currently, I am drawn to tropical bright colours, as well as the muted classy pastels, as you can see from this website). When not designing websites and coding I am off being creative painting large acrylic very bright abstracts. At the moment I am really enjoying developing my own range to surface pattern designs to print on fabrics and products. Check out my Society6 shop in case you’re interested. I also have my own little Etsy shop too selling my digital colouring sheets and some other products designed by me.

Now back to websites….what’s possible with web and digital tech is constantly evolving, so I always tell my clients it’s good to revisit and evolve their websites as a constant organic process to make their websites work for their businesses and keep up with their competitors.

In the current competitive marketplace, it is not enough to simply build a website. It is important to have a marketing strategy in place to get customers to see your business online. I can help with your digital marketing strategy.

I absolutely love to research and keep my knowledge of new website systems up-to-date. I am addicted to researching new designs and ideas! I am currently learning even more about colour theory and the psychology of colour.

Where I’m based


I don’t know about you but I like to be nosey and know where people work, so here is a sneak peek into the view of the garden from my home office in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire.

When not in the office I can be found doing something creative, like painting an abstract picture, drawing vectors patterns on the iPad, singing (I do this a lot!), taking long adventure walks with the kids or getting lost in the book. I love reading, psychology and researching, so you’ll often find me with a nose in a book, watching a video training course or reading an online article.
